Cirque du Soleil

Citizen developed three separate programs to keep Cirque du Soleil’s TOTEM, the latest Big Top production to play in Vancouver top of mind from June – July, 2014.

The Ask

  • Create buzz while engaging top influencers in Vancouver to participate in Cirque du Soleil’s activities

What we did

  • Engaged and hosted top Vancouver Instagrammers at an exclusive behind-the-scenes tour/photo competition which gave them a special opportunity to snap and share photos from inside the blue and yellow tent. They competed head-to-head against other Instagrammers for the most likes, and the winner won an all-expenses-paid trip to Vegas
  • Tapped into Vancouver blogger network by hosting three separate “Blogger Nights” for the top lifestyle, fashion, and mommy bloggers. They received complimentary tickets to the show and an exclusive behind-the-scenes tour
  • Organized a surprise-and-delight celebration for Cirque du Soleil’s 30thanniversary which included a pop-up performance in the heart of downtown Vancouver, free cupcakes and popcorn, surprise ticket giveaways, and special firework presentation at the Plaza of Nations


  • The Instagram contest received over 650,000 impressions and 8,800+ likes over the span of a week. Cirque plans to roll this concept out to all of their touring shows, globally
  • “Blogger Nights” generated over 137,000 positive media impressions
  • The City of Vancouver’s Mayor proclaimed June 16th as Cirque du Soleil Day in Vancouver
